When the Calgary Zoo Turned into Jurassic Park – KassDays Goes Back 66 Million YearsOkay, I didn’t actually time-travel (yet), but for one magical afternoon at the Calgary Zoo, it sure felt like it.
You know those massive, lifelike animatronic dinosaurs in the Prehistoric Park section? The ones that roar, blink, and swing their tails just a little too realistically? I grabbed the camera, waited for perfect light, and spent hours filming them from every angle. Then, back in the edit suite, I layered in mist, flying pterosaurs, lush Cretaceous plants, and a few extra roaring friends until the zoo paths disappeared completely.
Suddenly the T. rex was stalking through a steamy fern jungle instead of past the penguin exhibit. A Triceratops family grazed beside what looked like an ancient river (but was secretly the pond by the Canadian Wilds). Even the Parasaurolophus duck-billed calls echoed like I’d recorded them 66 million years ago instead of ten feet from families eating ice cream.The best part? Every single dinosaur you see moving in the video is 100% real footage I shot at the zoo, no stock clips, other than the editing software intro and exit, just Calgary’s own roaring residents with a heavy dose of movie magic sprinkled on top.
If you haven’t visited the Calgary Zoo’s Prehistoric Park lately, go. Walk the same path I did, stand where I stood the lens, and picture the exact scene I built. It’s the closest most of us will ever get to walking with dinosaurs, without leaving the city.
