The Millarville Skijor Showdown took place this past weekend on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Millarville Racetrack in Millarville, Alberta, hosted by Skijor Alberta in partnership with the Millarville Race & Ag Society. This high-energy equestrian skijoring event marked a standout kickoff for the organization, drawing crowds to witness one of Canada's fastest-growing winter sports.

Skijoring combines the thrill of horse racing with cross-country skiing: a skier is pulled at high speeds behind a galloping horse (or sometimes a team) around a course, navigating jumps, turns, and straightaways while holding onto a rope. The Millarville edition featured Canada's first double-sided skijor course on the racetrack's straightaway, adding an extra layer of excitement and challenge. With about 40 teams competing, the action was intense—full of speed, adrenaline, thrills, and the occasional spill (though reports noted only skiers took tumbles, and everyone was fine).
