Glider & Tug Plane Over the Diamond Valley Parade

What a special surprise today at the Diamond Valley Parade!  While everyone was enjoying the horses, classic cars, and parade fun on the ground, I looked up and spotted this beautiful sight: a sleek glider being towed by a small tug plane high against a dramatic cloudy sky. 

A Few Quick Facts About Gliders: Gliders (also called sailplanes) have no engine. They fly using rising air currents called thermals, ridge lift, or wave lift — basically “surfing” the sky. 
They are towed up to altitude by a powered “tug” plane (exactly what you see in the photo), then released to glide silently for as long as the pilot can find lift. 

Modern gliders are incredibly efficient — some have wingspans over 20 metres and can travel hundreds of kilometres on a good day. 
Gliding is often described as one of the purest and most peaceful forms of flight — just wind and skill. 
This kind of scene is very common around here because we’re lucky to have the Cu Nim Gliding Club located just 

north of Diamond Valley (near the old Black Diamond area). It’s a welcoming club with about 60 passionate pilots that offers training, introductory flights, and regular soaring activities.
If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing silent flight or learning to fly a glider, this is your local spot!  Moments like this remind me how much beauty there is both on the ground and in the sky during these small-town events.
