How to Fix a DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top: Burnt-Out Water Pump & Dead Tank Float
My DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top suddenly stopped warning me when the water tank was empty. At first it seemed like a minor glitch, but it quickly turned into a bigger problem: the water pump ran dry and burned out.
The root cause was the float sensor inside the tank. Once it fails, the machine no longer detects low water levels. On this particular model you can’t simply pop out the old float and drop in a new one—the entire tank assembly has to be replaced.
Here’s exactly what I did:
Ordered a complete replacement water tank (OEM part) from a reliable DeLonghi parts supplier.   
Removed the old tank, disconnected the float sensor wiring, and installed the new one.   
Replaced the burned-out water pump (a straightforward swap once the tank is out). 
 
Total downtime was less than a couple hours or so, once the parts arrived. The machine is now back to pulling perfect shots and frothing milk without drama.

Pro tip: If your empty-tank alert ever stops working, don’t keep running the machine. Replace the tank right away—saving a few days will almost always cost you a new pump.
