1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Heritage Park Spring Thaw

 – A Trans-Am Legend at Heritage ParkThis eye-catching red and black 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 was one of the standout cars at the Nifty Fifty Spring Thaw Car Show held at Heritage Park in Calgary.
With its hood raised, race number 15 boldly displayed on the door, and covered in period-correct sponsor decals (Union, Firestone, Castrol, and more), the car perfectly captured the raw excitement of early 1970s American road racing.
Why the Boss 302 MattersFord created the Boss 302 as a direct response to Chevrolet’s dominant Camaro Z/28 in the SCCA Trans-Am racing series. Introduced in 1969 and refined for 1970, it was a street-legal homologation special built to win in the under-5-liter production class.
Key features included:

• A high-revving 302 cu in (4.9L) V8 producing approximately 290 hp 
• Special “Cleveland-style” heads, solid lifters, and aggressive tuning 
• Heavy-duty suspension and brakes 
• Distinctive styling with side stripes and iconic Boss 302 graphics 

 
In the 1970 Trans-Am season, the #15 Boss 302, campaigned by Bud Moore Engineering and driven by Parnelli Jones, helped Ford secure the manufacturer’s championship. These cars were fast, loud, and brutally effective on the track.
The example at Heritage Park is set up in full period Trans-Am livery, complete with a white roof, racing mirrors, and correct wheels. Whether it’s an original survivor, a restored racer, or a highly detailed tribute, it beautifully evokes the golden era when Mustangs battled Camaros, Javelins, and Barracudas across North America.
Seeing this Boss 302 displayed on the brick streets of Heritage Park, surrounded by charming heritage buildings, was a perfect blend of racing aggression and relaxed spring car-show atmosphere.
